Here are the epilepsy events for April 2019. Show your support for individuals and families with epilepsy by participating, volunteering, or donating to one or more of these great events. Every little bit helps as we all work toward finding effective treatments – or even a cure.

Event: Kurt Eichenwald’s A Mind Unraveled Book Signing, Epilepsy Foundation -Texas
When: Monday, April 1 at 7 pm
Where: Brazos Bookstore, Houston, TX
Description: This is the story of one man’s battle to pursue his dreams despite an often incapacitating brain disorder. From his early experiences of fear and denial to his exasperating search for treatment, Eichenwald provides a deeply candid account of his years facing this misunderstood and often stigmatized condition. He details his encounters with the doctors whose negligence could have killed him, but for the heroic actions of a brilliant neurologist and the family and friends who fought for him.

Event: Reverse Rett Minneapolis, Rett Syndrome Research Trust
When: Thursday, April 4 from 6:30 pm till 9:30 pm
Where: Edina Country Club, Edina, MN
Description: Please join us in supporting this urgent cause to change the lives of our loved ones and 350,000 others afflicted with Rett Syndrome. Your generosity last year was so important to helping the Rett Syndrome Research Trust advance approaches that could profoundly reverse this terrible neurological disorder. Now we have even more reason to be optimistic. The first human clinical trials in gene therapy for Rett Syndrome will start very soon. But it’s critical that we continue this momentum. RSRT needs our support more than ever to fully execute its bold, $33 million strategic research plan, Roadmap to a Cure. Please support generously, and we can’t wait to see you there! We know it will be a moving, fun, and informative evening.

Description: Join us for a fun night to raise money to help find a cure for Rett Syndrome. $40 per seat.

Event: 18th Annual Comedy for a Cure, Tuberous Sclerosis AlliancePinterest-AprilEvents-SeizureLink-190328
When: Sunday, April 7 at 5 pm PDT
Where: Academy LA, Los Angeles, CA
Description: Comedy for a Cure has developed a fabulous Comedian Committee that meets physically every year to kick off planning for the event’s talent lineup. The committee is chaired by Jim O’Heir, and members include Shane Brady, Mo Collins, Kate Flannery, Wendy Liebman, Melissa Peterman, Craig Shoemaker, Jimmy Shubert and Alex Skuby. This year, the Szylagi Family will be presented the Courage in Leadership Award for the compassionate dedication they have provided the organization since their 23-year-old daughter, Emily, was a young child. The event’s long-time comedian supporter, Wendy Liebman, will be honored with a TSC Champion award as will Dr. Joyce Wu of UCLA for her ongoing support for the advancement of treatments and therapies for TSC.

Event: The BRAIN Initiative Investigators Meeting, NIH Neurological Disorders and Stroke

Description: The BRAIN Initiative® Investigators Meeting convenes BRAIN Initiative awardees, staff, and leadership from the contributing federal agencies (NIH, NSF, DARPA, IARPA, and FDA), plus representatives and investigators from participating non-federal organizations, and members of the media, public, and Congress. The purpose of this open meeting is to provide a forum for discussing exciting scientific developments and potential new directions, and to identify areas for collaboration and research coordination.

Event: The Great Gatsby Gala, Rett Eliminated Together Today
When: Friday, April 12 at 6 pm
Where: Arizona Heritage Center, Tempe, AZ
Description: Rett Eliminated Together Today (RETT) invites you to our Great Gatsby Gala supporting a Second Chance for Sophia & Friends. This glamorous evening will feature cocktails, decadent cuisine, champagne toasts and perhaps a few flappers and gangsters. All proceeds from the Gala will go directly to funding the critical research necessary to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. Please join us for what is sure to be an evening you won't forget and help us make Rett Syndrome the first reversible neurological disorder in history!

Event: Ohio Epilepsy Wellness Expo, Epilepsy Foundation - Ohio
When: Saturday, April 13 from 9 am to 1:30 pm
Where: Quest Conference Center, Westerville, OH
Description: This is the inaugural year for this event, featuring speakers, educational vendors, kids activities, a continental breakfast, door prizes and more. Anyone affected by epilepsy is welcome to attend.

Event: Emily’s Dri Tri and Spring Festival, RettSyndrome.org
When: Saturday, April 13 at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm
Where: OTF Smyrna, Smyrna, GA
Description: Orange is going purple to raise awareness and funds for RettsSyndrome.org! This is the first event of its kind for our three studios! The event is a team Dri Tri, meaning one person will do one part of the event (rowing, floor, or treadmill). Teams will consist of two members from one studio plus one staff member. The cost is $35 and must be paid at the time of sing up. There will also be a festival at OTF Smyrna from 2 pm until 5 pm to celebrate the event and our members. Please join us for food, local vendors, a bounce house, games, raffle prizes, and fun for the whole family!

Where: 115 Bourbon Street, Merrionette Park, IL
Description: All you can eat buffet & open bar and silent auction.

Event: Taking a Swing at BattenBeyond Batten Disease Foundation
When: Sunday, April 14 from 2 pm till 5 pm
Where: Topgolf Austin, Austin, TX
Description: The BBDF Youth Leadership Committee invites the Austin community to participate in their 2nd annual Taking a Swing at Batten fundraiser. All ages and abilities are welcome—no prior golf experience needed to enjoy or support this event. Registrations is $75 per golfer and includes clubs, play and food. Have a large group? Great! Purchase a Bay Sponsorship for $500, which includes a private bay for up to 6 individuals. All event proceeds support BBDF’s mission to raise awareness and find a cure for juvenile Batten disease.

Event: Run to Erase EpilepsyEpilepsy Alliance of America - Ohio
When: Saturday, April 20 at 9 am
Where: Genoa Park, Columbus, OH
Description: Join the Epilepsy Alliance Ohio as we host our third annual Run to Erase Epilepsy 3 mile run/walk to benefit local services in our community. The event is held at Genoa Park in downtown Columbus and features a great course, food, refreshments, music and awards after the race. Your support of this race will help us impact the lives of thousands of people living with seizures. There are a few ways to can support the Epilepsy Alliance through this race. You can register for the race; register and create a team to challenge yourself, family, and friends to not only participate but also to help raise funds for the EAO; register and join your favorite team; or make a donation help fund our vital programs and services.

Event: 4th Annual Golf Fore a Cure, RettSyndrome.org
When: Saturday, April 20 at 7 am
Where: Cleveland Heights Golf Course, Lakeland, FL
Description: Four person scramble, putting contest, longest drive, and closest to the pin. Lunch provided by Bosco’s. All proceeds from this event will benefit RettSyndrome.org.

Event: Beauty and the Beast GalaChelsea Hutchinson Foundation
When: Saturday, April 20 from 5:30 pm until 11 pm MDT
Where: Hilton Denver Inverness, Englewood, CO
Description: Beauty and the Beast Gala is the 10th Annual Spring Gala event benefiting The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation (“CHF”). This promises to be a fun-filled evening with great entertainment, fabulous dinner, great friends and wonderful auctions, followed up by casino games and entertainment by Colorado Casino Nights. This evening will be a celebration of those lives that have been touched by the generous donors of CHF. This year's entertainment will be The Silhouette's - you may have seen them perform on America's Got Talent in 2013.

Event: Walk to End EpilepsyEpilepsy Foundation
When: Saturday, April 27
Where: National Mall, Washington, DC
Description: National #EpilepsyWalk for awareness and fundraising will take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Walker’s Village will at the Smithsonian National Mall metro station. Use the #EpilepsyWalk and #WalkToEndEpilepsy hashtags to share your story and raise money for services for people living with epilepsy, training on proper seizure recognition and first aid, advocacy to ensure health care options remain strong for people living with seizures, and research for better treatments and cures.

Event: Seize the Day 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run, Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana 
When: April 27, Registration for Fun Run 9 am and for 5K 9:30 am
Where: LSU Old Front Nine, Baton Rouge, LA
Description: This community awareness day hosts over 1200 people and is the largest epilepsy advocacy day in the state. It is a great day for people and families affected by epilepsy in Louisiana. Many local restaurants and businesses are involved. The money raised from the event allows the foundation to educate schools, corporations and government entities, provide services to those living with epilepsy, and help raise public awareness.

Event: Run for Rett 2019, RettSyndrome.org
When: Saturday, April 27 at 7 am
Where: Busse Woods – North, Elk Grove, IL
Description: From the serious runner to the recreational runner, to family members and friends of all ages, the Run for Rett is an event you don’t want to miss. Make a difference in the lives of those affected by Rett Syndrome. Join us in the Run for Rett.

Event: Walk to End Epilepsy, Epilepsy Foundation -Texas
When: Saturday, April 27 from 10 am till 12 pm
Where: West Bay Beach Hotel, Traverse City, MI
Description: The Stroll is an inspirational walk that brings people together to raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan - benefiting initiatives on a local level, while also increasing epilepsy awareness.

Event: London Marathon 2019Tuberous Sclerosis Association
When: Sunday, April 28
Where: London, England
Description: The London Marathon is one of the biggest in the world watched by millions on TV so it This event offers a great opportunity to take our brand to a TV audience of millions so if you live around London , or will be in the area on that date, and would like to encourage our runners as part of the #TeamTSA support squad and please let us know on email at fundraising@tuberous-sclerosis.org or call us on 020 7922 7731. We are delighted to announce that our #TeamTSA London Marathon 2019 runners are Daniel Marks, Lauren McWhinnie, Sarah Ridings, Jamie Heselden and Steve Picton.

Event: Strengthening a Neural Network: Pathways for Institutional Change Regarding Diversity and InclusionNIH Neurological Disorders and Stroke

Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30
Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bethesda, Bethesda, MD
Description: This workshop is being held to discuss issues on institutional change and transparency in pursuit of enhancing the diversity of the neuroscience workforce. It is a follow-up to two previous workshops: one in 2016 to identify successful approaches to recruit, train, and retain diverse individuals in the neuroscience workforce and a second in 2017 to discuss the issues, misconceptions, and barriers that currently exist in neuroscience graduate admissions programs with regard to diverse trainees.

Quite often, local chapters for epilepsy organizations host special activities and support groups that may not be included in our list of epilepsy events. Visit the website of epilepsy organizations in your area and view their calendar or list of events to find activities, lectures, support groups, and more. We list a number of epilepsy events here, but we cover the United States and some overseas organizations. There may be some things going on in your area that didn’t make our calendar so be sure to check! If there is an event you feel should be included here, please let us know so we can add it.
