These are the January events for the epilepsy community. If your organization has an event, or if you know of an event not featured here, please let us know so we can include it. Send an email with all the information, including the URL and contact info to SLMarketing@brainsentinel.com. Please try to give us at least one-month notice, if possible. This will ensure that we can get it on our calendar as early as possible, giving our readers a little time to plan.

 

Event: Sing for Seizures, Epilepsy Foundation of Indiana
When: Sunday, January 5 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM EST

Description: Please join us for a fun-filled night to raise money and awareness for The Epilepsy Foundation! Hosted by singer/songwriter Breanna Faith, this open-mic event is sure to provide amazing entertainment by local talent of all ages! Want to sing? Contact us for details! Event: RettEd in Spanish: ¿Qué es el síndrome de Rett?, Rettsyndrome.org

Description: Please join us for a presentation in Spanish from our bilingual Rett syndrome expert neurologist Dr. Mario Petersen, Section Chief, Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics and Endowed Chair, The Gerber Center for Infant Development and Nutrition, at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, and recent past Medical Director of the Rett Syndrome clinic at Oregon Health Sciences University. This will be valuable for your Spanish-speaking loved ones who want to better understand Rett syndrome. RettEd Webinars are a free resource designed to empower families affected by Rett syndrome and their care teams.

 

Event: Virtual Teen Social Group, Epilepsy Foundation New England
When: Wednesday, January 8 from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM EST
Where: MGH Pediatric Epilepsy Program, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114
Description: Connect with peers over common interests: TV shows, books, movies, and sports. This virtual group allows our teen patients to connect with each other in a low pressure online setting. This group will be guided by our Social Workers and Nursing staff. This activity will allow anxious or shy patients to ease into a social setting with their peers; peers that may be going through similar experiences due to their medical condition. Each 4 week session will focus on a different topic. People 13-19 years old are welcome to participate. 

 

Event: Facebook Live: Women and Epilepsy, Epilepsy Foundation Ohio
When: Thursday, January 9 from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM EST
Where: Online: Facebook
Description: Women face man unique issues when dealing with epilepsy, especially around hormones as epilepsy triggers, pregnancy and medications and more. Join us for a Facebook Live presentation about Women and Epilepsy. Our speaker will be Barbara Phillips, MD of Premier Health. No reservations needed, just come to our Facebook page the day of the event at 2 pm. 

 

Event: Chelsea’s Bingo, Chelsea Hutchison Foundation

Description: Join us every Thursday night at 7:30 for Chelsea's Bingo. $2,000 in payouts every session. Pay for as little as $8.00 The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation grants comfort and hope to those who live with epilepsy.

 

Event: Young Adult Meet and Greet, Epilepsy Foundation Northern California
When: Friday, January 10 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM PST

Description: The Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California would like to invite you to our young adult meet and greet! If you are interested in meeting other young adults affected by epilepsy, and using this social time to connect, then this event is for you! We welcome all young adults (ages 18-30 years old) affected by epilepsy. The evening will include a social hour with wonderful food and light refreshments.

Event: Shreveport Monthly Q&A Session with UCB, Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana

Description: The featured Speaker for January will be a rep with UCB. Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana (EAL) is dedicated to supporting those impacted by epilepsy in local communities by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures. Q&A Sessions are conducted by Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana for adults and teenagers with epilepsy, as well as for parents of children with epilepsy. These sessions provide a setting for people concerned with epilepsy to learn and discuss day-to-day issues.

Description: The 10th Annual "War On the Shore" High School basketball shootout is a one day event with all three games taking place New Trier High School The event pits three program's from Chicago's North Shore - Loyola, New Trier and Evanston - versus three programs from greater Chicagoland. The early start times make for a great family outing on a Winter Saturday; bring the kids!


Event: Studio E Art Program: Dance, Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago

Description: Studio E is back with exciting changes! In addition to a new location at the Epiphany Center for the Arts, we will now be expanding the program to include sessions on art, yoga, dance, music, and cooking! Sessions start in November and run monthly through June! This session will focus on dance. Studio E is a free program. At this time, it is only open to adults 18 years and older living with epilepsy.
